10 tips to work smarter: tip 1 - Make a daily schedule

Either you will run the day or the day runs you! -Jim Rohn

Read in: 2 minutes.

By planning you make your goals visible and you increase the chance of success. It helps you estimate how much time you need for your work. It makes result-oriented and provides insight into the feasibility of your deadlines. It also ensures that you can make realistic agreements with others and yourself.

  • Start each day by setting your goals for the day. Or better yet: end your working day by making a plan for the next day. This means that you can get to work immediately in the morning and that you are less likely to be distracted by ad-hoc business or e-mail.
  • Be realistic in the number of goals you set for yourself on a daily basis. Rather do less things and do the right things. Plan enough space for unforeseen matters. After all, life is full of surprises. Do you still have time to do more? Then that's a good thing!
  • Also plan time for the preparation and afterwork of meetings in your agenda. This contributes to the quality and the success of your appointments.
  • Make sure that your agenda gives a good and realistic picture of how you really spend your time. So adjust your agenda afterwards to be truthful. Move things you didn't get to to a later moment. This way you prevent them from disappearing from your radar and you keep the overview in the long term.

This is the first tip in a series of 10 tips to work smarter.
